There are some very lucky teachers and students at Ridgeway School! Through a promotion by Yahoo.com, teachers Crystal Policastro and Robyn Pilcher were able to get over $9,200 worth of materials for their classrooms!
They consistently have projects up on a giving website called DonorsChoose.org. This website gives teachers the opportunity to ask for materials for their classroom, then various donors throughout the world search the site and give a donation towards a classroom.
In October and November, Yahoo.com asked people to record their best Yahoo Yodel, and in return, they would give a ten dollar gift card to a project of their choice on DonorsChoose.org. With yodels on their minds, and their students in their hearts, these two teachers collected hundreds of "yahoos" from everyone: staff members, administration, family, friends, parents of students, waitresses, local store owners-- anyone!!
It was hard to believe that by a person simply giving their version of the Yahoo Yodel, these two teachers were able to get many materials for their classrooms. Items that were purchased include digital cameras, an LCD projector, pieces of furniture, and what seems to be an endless supply of learning games, activities, and resources. Words like appreciative and grateful do not begin to describe how Mrs. Policastro and Miss Pilcher feel towards their "Yahoo" items.
Other lucky Ridgeway teachers, like Suzanne Cummings, Geri Szoke, Barbara Ambler, and Tracy Kiernan, have had their projects funded on this great website as well. It is a website that allows others to "pay it forward" and give to those who are perhaps the most thankful: the students.
