Confidentiality
All counseling services are confidential. When students seek help on their own from the SAC, they are encouraged to share this information with their families. However, parents are not automatically contacted by the counselor unless an assessment indicates a safety risk, meaning the student is at risk of harming him or herself, harming someone else, or is being harmed by another individual.
Information discussed in counseling sessions will not be shared with teachers, administration or other students. THE ONLY TIME CONFIDENTIALITY IS BROKEN IS IF A STUDENT IS AT RISK OF HURTING HIS OR HERSELF, HARMING SOMEONE ELSE, IF ABUSE/NEGLECT IS SUSPECTED , OR IF THERE IS A COURT ORDER. In some situations, the student may also give written permission for information to be disclosed.
