MEETING

Each month, the Board of Education recognizes students from every school at their meeting. This month the Board of Education celebrated the following students and their achievements with the community:

Congratulations to the Manchester Township School District Girl Scout Silver Award Recipients Josephine (Josie) O’Brien & Bailey O’Brien!

Manchester Township Elementary School:

4th graders Amelia Sarno, Lyla Nelson, Zach Marco Ben, Karina Popa, and Kyla Jenkins are the founding members of Operation Kindness. Operation Kindness is a student-run initiative dedicated to spreading kindness throughout the MTES community.  During our December "16 days of Smiles ", students are delivering kindness grams, hosting a door decorating contest, and planning spirit days. These dragons are helping not only their classmates but also spreading kindness throughout the entire MTES community.

Whiting Elementary School:

James Cherry is a third-grade student being recognized for being a friend and mentor to a student in our Autism program. James has invited the student to sit at his lunch table and uses this time to communicate with him even though English is not the student’s first language. He goes the extra mile to include him in recess activities and helps him during special area classes. He is a role model for kindness and acceptance.

Ridgeway Elementary School

On Thanksgiving Day, Bella King volunteered at the annual Thanksgiving dinner held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Whiting. She worked with her mother and the Boy Scout Troops in preparing meals for the attendees. Bella worked very hard and helped out wherever she was needed. Her positivity and upbeat personality was very much appreciated by everyone.

Regional Day School

Ben has made amazing strides in class since the beginning of this year. He comes right into class each day with a smile on his face and ready to work. He follows rules and procedures. Ben is a

positive role model to others. He is very respectful, kind, and helpful to all. We are all so incredibly proud of Ben’s improvement! He is so deserving of being awarded the honor of RDS Student of the Month!

Manchester Township Middle School

MTMS is very happy to recognize Kennedy Cervenak and Kiara Varela as role models in STEM.  They continually help other students with the Project STEM program. The program allows students to challenge themselves and achieve their goals with computer programming. Both girls continue to thrive in the program.

Ezekiel Correa and Savannah Jackson are representing MTMS as our Student/Athletes for the month of December. Ezekiel and Savannah are both a great representation of what it means to be a student athlete. They are both 8th grade leaders of our Basketball teams, work just as hard in the classroom as they do in the athletic arena and serve as an excellent example to our younger student/athletes.

Manchester Township High School:

Under the direction of Ms. White and Ms. Malebranche, MTHS students participated in the Ocean County College Robotics Competition on December 1, 2023. The group of students won 1st place for the “Overall “ category for presentation and received tuition scholarships at OCC to pursue course work at the college.  Congratulations to Michael Mango, David Estrada, Emily Emmert, Stephanie Ehrhardt and Todd Popek.

Congratulations to Abigail and Will who are MTHS' Student Athletes of the Month! Abigail Montgomery has been a big part of the success the girl's bowling team has had to start this year.  With a 4-0 record over the 1st 2 weeks, Abby has had the team-high game and series for 2 of the 4 matches.  5 of her 12 games have been over 200, on her way to an average of 195-good for 2nd highest average in the division.  Her season highs are a 235 game and a 636 series.

Will Ashton was a driving force for our XC team success.  After losing 4 of our top 7 runners to graduation, the team finished 6-1 in division and 2nd place in South Jersey Group 2.  Will finished individually in 5th place in SJG2 and narrowly missed qualifying for the Meet of Champions.

Both Abigail and Will demonstrate what hard work, dedication and positive leadership can help accomplish individually and when helping to represent our team and school community.
