Manchester's Regional Day School at Jackson is a special and unique place that is filled with laughter, love, and wonderful memory-making. As with other programs for handicapped students, Manchester's Regional Day School at Jackson strives to provide the least restrictive environment for those pupils whose handicaps are low incidence or of a severity that prevents programming in any other setting. The school provides each student with an enriched and comprehensive appropriate program that is demonstrated thoroughly on days like today.
The mission of Tim McCloone's Holiday Express is to deliver music, food, gifts, financial support, and friendship to those with the greatest need for the gift of human kindness during the holiday season. They visited Regional Day School today for their annual performance and brought down the house. In addition to bringing their talents and holiday cheer, they donated books to the school for all students to enjoy.
The band provided a fun and interactive holiday musical extravaganza led by a team of volunteer professional musicians, a delicious lunch for the students, fun holiday activities, and even a gift bag. Students dance with members of the Holiday Express, sing along, and enjoy special guest characters who also sing and enjoy the performance along with the student body.
"A visit to our school by The Holiday Express is highly anticipated by everybody across the Manchester Township School District, and especially the students and staff here at the Regional Day School," says Principal Lisa Michallis. "Music therapy is a very important component of our educational program here at Regional Day School. To have The Holiday Express bring holiday music to life, interact with our students, and allow them to join in to sing and play with their band for the day, is a special experience for all."
The day featured visits from special guests across the school district and town. The Manchester Police came by to not only spend time with our students and staff but also to present Principal Michallis with a $1,500.00 donation check for the Regional Day School students! The donation was made by the Manchester P.B.A. 246. Funds will be used to provide winter coats, jackets, and other outerwear needs for Regional Day School students. Thank you to the Manchester Police for your continued support of our schools and students!
And a big thank you to The Holiday Express for bringing such wonderful holiday joy to our school community. If you walk down the hallways of Regional Day School this afternoon, it can be heard repeatedly that, "this is one of the best school days of the year!"
