Superintendent Pedroza always shares about how it takes a village to raise a child, and here in Manchester we are so grateful for all who support our students as a part of our village. This week has provided such a wonderful example of how MTSD comes together with our community to proactively provide guidance and education on the hurdles that students may face.
At the elementary school level, L.E.A.D. instructors from the Manchester Township Police Department (MTPD) began the L.E.A.D. Program with fifth-grade students. Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence (L.E.A.D.) is a non-profit organization, supported by dedicated police officers, committed to protecting our youth and communities from the proliferation of drugs, drug-related crimes, peer-to-peer/cyberbullying, and violence (L.E.A.D. Website). This valuable program not only impacts Mancheseter's students through the L.E.A.D. curriculum but also builds positive relationships between students and Manchester's dedicated law enforcement officers.
In taking proactive measures to prevent vaping among Manchester Township Middle School (MTMS) students, MTPD officers were found across MTMS classrooms discussing the topic with 7th-grade students in an interactive lesson. The students were receptive, respectful, and appreciative of the officers' time and presentation. Before leaving, the officers stopped by the MTMS small group instruction class for a "cup of joe" from The Mustang Joe's crew! The students were so excited to serve the officers and share all about their Mustang Joe's coffee cart initiative. Thank you, Sgt. Craig, Officer Sullivan, Officer Weed, and Officer Brush for spending time today with our students and continuing to make a positive impact. We appreciate our continued partnership!
At Manchester Township High School (MTHS), the students participated in an assembly with Ms. Angela Teeple. Angela is a former teacher, athlete, author, and motivational speaker who discusses with students her life journey and the importance of resilience and perseverance.
During the presentation, students listened intently and participated in lessons on how to be "All In" when it comes to good decision-making, resilience, and holding the power to write their stories. Students spent time in plank challenges showcasing the importance of mental strength. They discussed having the right mindset to keep them going through life's challenges. And left the assembly buzzing with positivity, food for thought, and being inspired.
