Each month, the Board of Education recognizes students from every school at their meeting. This month the Board of Education celebrated the following students and their achievements with the community:
Manchester Township Elementary School:
Meet Manchester Township Elementary School students Jax Lelievre, Ariel Carroll-Wakem, Luna Gonzalez Magana, and Nathaniel Tudor. They are here representing the entire MTES Kindergarten team as we spotlight their Hearts Around the World Postcard Project. It began as simply sharing postcards from family and places they visited and has turned into a collection of over 100 postcards from around the world. These young Dragons even received postcards from an entire high school class in Arizona!
Ridgeway Elementary School:
Ridgeway Elementary School student Camryn Parkerson developed and implemented a math game called ¨Let's Go Look¨ for her classmates. The game focused on division using the ¨Big 7¨ partial product strategy. On her own time, she decorated a lunch bag for each classmate to hold their earned points, brought in a deck of cards to use to track points, and even supplied a prize for the winner. Her classmates were completely engaged and enjoyed the game immensely. Her game had 5 stations with problems that varied in difficulty. She even provided scaffolding and hints to help her classmates be successful at her game. We were so impressed with her effort! She has even inspired other classmates to develop games and activities for the class.
Whiting Elementary School:
Whiting Elementary School 5th graders from Mrs. Reiman and Mrs. Rapciewicz’s classes have been so enthusiastic to restart the Recycling Club at Whiting Elementary School in 2024. They got right to work making posters and presented about what is recyclable and what is not to the classrooms and informed the staff and students of how our Recycling program works. Every Friday before dismissal, students work together to empty the recycling bins from every classroom in an organized manner so that our school custodians can do the last step of bringing it outside to the recycling container. At the March Board of Education meeting, we recognized students who have volunteered their time to collect recycling and are committed to reducing waste at Whiting School and improving our school’s impact on the environment. We are very proud of their initiative to promote environmental awareness, reduce waste, and encourage responsible citizenship at Whiting Elementary School. A special thanks to Mrs. Triana who helped spearhead these efforts.
Regional Day School:
Congratulations to Steven Guillen! This mighty preschooler has shown a lot of improvement with PECS communication and his imitation skills. Steven has recently learned how to imitate clapping, marching, and jumping. Stephen is participating in class and music therapy and loves to dance. We are so proud of him!
Manchester Township Middle School:
Manchester Township Middle School's Mariana Hernandez is an exemplary 7th grade student. Mariana excels in and out of the classroom. She is a straight-A student who exhibits an excellent work ethic in school and at home. She is also an amazing role model and liaison for the ELL population. Mariana is bilingual and has become a great resource for her teachers and the ELL students in class. She is able to take on this additional responsibility without impeding her own learning or becoming a distraction to others. Mariana is an absolute joy and a pleasure to have in class.
Manchester Township Middle School Athletes of the Month:
We are extremely proud to have Samuel Spaziano and Christine Flanagan represent MTMS as our Student/Athletes for March. Samuel and Christine are both a great representation of what it means to be a student-athlete. They are both 8th-grade leaders of our Baseball/Basketball and Softball/Soccer/Basketball teams and work just as hard in the classroom as they do in the athletic arena. They both serve as excellent examples to our younger students/athletes.
Manchester Township High School:
Deja Vu 2023, under the advisement of Ms. Ocone and financial adviser Mr. Schmidt, the yearbook of Manchester Township High School, was selected as a captivating and innovative yearbook, highlighting its creative excellence and journalistic excellence, by being chosen for inclusion in Volume 10 of Possibilities, a 352-page inspiration and idea book published by Walsworth Publishing. Deja Vu 2023’s theme was “Who Cares? We Care” and co-editors in chief were 2023 graduates Abby Peluso and Alexis Cervenak.
