Broadway Star Christy Altomare Holds Exclusive Musical Theatre Workshop with Manchester Township High School and Middle School Students
in Preparation for Upcoming Performances
This past weekend Broadway star Christy Altomare, best known for her lead role in the Broadway musical, Anastasia, joined Manchester Township High School (MTHS) and Manchester Township Middle School (MTMS) drama students for an inspiring and dynamic musical theatre workshop. The event was designed to inspire and prepare the students for their upcoming performances of Anastasia and Shrek Jr., and provide them with a unique opportunity to learn from one of Broadway’s finest.
Altomare, whose career spans across major Broadway productions, including Mamma Mia! and Spring Awakening, shared her expertise in acting, vocal technique, and stage presence. Students participated in a variety of interactive exercises that focused on building confidence, refining their performances, and understanding the intricacies of musical theatre.
The students were excited to learn from Altomare, gaining valuable insights into what it takes to succeed on the Broadway stage. “I am so grateful for the chance to learn from a true Broadway star,” said one of the students participating in the workshop. “Christy has inspired me to work harder on my craft and believe in myself as a performer. This experience will stay with me for a lifetime.”
Another student had this to say about working with Christy: “Christy was a delight to work with and she gave some incredible advice that is really going to help us not just in theatre but in life. She had the best energy and is genuinely the sweetest person ever.”
The event was organized by the Manchester Township School District’s Performing Arts Teachers, Mrs. Katie Sherman, and Mrs. Krystyna Hubbard, with the goal of providing students with hands-on experience from professionals in the industry. The students’ upcoming performances will showcase the hard work and dedication they’ve put into their craft, and the workshop with Altomare served as an inspiring and valuable tool in their artistic development.
The Manchester Township Middle School Drama students will be performing Shrek Jr. on March 21st and 22nd at 7:00 pm with a matinee performance on the 22nd beginning at 2:00 pm.
The Manchester Township High School Drama students will be performing Anastasia on April 11th & 12th at 7:00 pm with a matinee performance on the 12th at 2:00 pm. Both performances are located at Manchester Township High School, 101 Hawks Way, Manchester, NJ 08759. We hope to see all members of the community come out to enjoy their performances.
