Pete the Cat WES

The Manchester Township School District's (MTSD) Universal Preschool Program is excitedly finishing the Creative Curriculum’s Clothes Study with different and fun celebrations!

Today, Ms. Yunginger's class at Whiting School explored themed foods during their snack time that connected them to one of their favorite books, Pete the Cat's I Love My White Shoes! The school district's youngest learners excitedly read together as Pete took them on a journey with his shoes into whatever mess he got into! Some of the messes included Pete stepping in strawberries, blueberries, and MUD!

WES Pete the Cat

Students grabbed their handmade Pete the Cat's and headed to their tables to sit and explore a Pete the Cat Snack together. Students were served strawberries and blueberries as featured in the story, sunbutter nutella to represent the mud Pete stepped in during the story, and whipped cream to remind them of how white Pete's shoes were before he stepped into all of the story's messes! By connecting the story to the foods for students in this way, Mrs. Yunginger brings classroom lessons to life, encouraging critical thinking, arts and crafts, color recognition, the social interaction of dining together and sharing about the foods they are trying, and so much more! Students work with their teachers to explore the world around them as they learn and grow!
