Cataldo PreK Clothing Study

The Manchester Township School District's (MTSD) Universal Preschool Program is working to celebrate the end of the Creative Curriculum’s Clothing Study. Each class chooses a culminating celebration that connects the students to the lessons they've learned.

Today, Mrs. Cataldo's class at Whiting School (WES) had a very special guest! Professional Bridal Seamstress, and WES parent, Ms. Hanson, came to visit and help the students put together a unique project they have been working on. The class has been learning all about different types of clothing, materials that make up clothing, the design of clothing, how clothes are put together, and so much more. The Clothing Study reiterates age-appropriate lessons about colors, sounds, letters, textures, creative thinking, and collaboration all while connecting students to the world around them.

Each student in Mrs. Cataldo's class picked a piece of fabric in the color of their choice to decorate. When Ms. Hanson arrived today, students proudly shared which fabric was theirs, how and why they decorated it, and prepared to help put the fabric pieces together to make a quilt!

Ms. Hanson set up her sewing station as the children watched intently. They then took turns visiting her at the sewing machine to help put the pieces of fabric together. They pressed the peddle and they helped press buttons on the sewing machine while proudly watching as their piece of fabric was connected by the process. The task brought the clothing study to life for students as they experienced hands-on how clothing and fabrics are knit together in this way.

In the end, the students proudly showcased their class quilt which will hang in the hallway at WES for all to enjoy. Thank you to Ms. Hanson for visiting and taking the time to bring to life some of the lessons our students have been learning about how clothes are put together.

We look forward to seeing what our youngest learners explore next as they move from the Clothing Study into the Wheels Study!
