Samantha Palermo, a graduate of the Manchester Township School District (MTSD), is now a successful, published author of a children's book called Oh, Jamey, Just Sleep! Today she visited the students of Whiting Elementary School to share her story as a Manchester alumni, share about when she was a student of their Principal, Ms. Swift, and read her inspiring book!
Students learned from Mrs. Palermo all about what it means to write and publish a book. They got a glimpse into her process which included brainstorming and creating a vision board. She discussed with them the idea for the book, the problem, and the solution they would learn when it was read. In return, students excitedly shared what topics they were passionate about that may inspire them to write their own books. Students discussed with Mrs. Palermo the different parts of a book, and what an illustrator does, and some students even won blank books to become their very own self-published authors!
The students listened intently as Mrs. Palermo read the story which was an illustration about her son Jamey and how he needed to get some sleep! The students worked through identifying the problem in the book and revealing the solutions that helped Jamey overcome it. It was a fun and engaging afternoon for students who were inspired by a graduate of the Manchester Township School District who is now helping others by sharing her talents, and story, as an author.
